About Commissioner James Carabelli
Commissioner James Carabelli was elected November 2018 to his sixth two-year term as a county commissioner. He represents the residents of Shelby Township and Utica in District 6.
Carabelli currently serves as Board Vice-Chair and has served as co-chair of the Planning & Economic Development Committee, vice-chair of the Buildings, Roads & Public Works Committee, and as a member of the Courts & Legal Affairs, Finance, Personnel and Public Services committees. For the 2013-14 term he served as chair of the Infrastructure Committee and served as co-chair of the Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee for the 2015-16 term.
Commissioner Carabelli was elected as the Chair of SEMCOG’s County Bloc Caucus and as a Delegate to their Regional Clearinghouse Review Committee. Carabelli has been involved with SEMCOG since 2010. He also serves as the Chair of the Macomb Orchard Trail Commission.
Before joining the County Board, Carabelli was elected to two four-year terms as a member of the Shelby Township Board of Trustees, serving from 2000 to 2008. He is also a former chairman of the Macomb County Republican Party; a post he held from 2004-08.
Carabelli works as vice president of a local landscape company and lives in Shelby Township with his wife, Annemarie, and their four children.
